Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
CPY was created 24 years ago,, April 1991 when an outstanding athlete was shot and killed in an alledged drug deal. The community came together and out of this grassroots community leadership Community Partnership for Youth (CPY) was born.
What is your primary product or service?
CPY offers a straightforward, principled approach of empowerment to Seaside’s most vulnerable population – at-risk youth. Students learn and demonstrate the CPY Standards; are provided homework and reading assistance and support; develop one-on-one mentor and peer-to-peer relationships, whereby they can practice and model positive behaviors that will lead to personal success. Studies suggest that by instilling values on a consistent basis children will learn to change their behavior.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
CPY has an afterschool mentor/tutor program at all elementary schools in Seaside and another at Walter Colton Middle School.
